Few things are more devastating to an athlete than a season-ending injury. One of the best available measures to prevent knee injuries is Sportsmetrics. Scientifically proven to reduce the risk of serious knee injury and improve sports performance, Sportsmetrics provides a plethora of benefits to athletes:
Sportsmetrics Overview
Sportsmetrics training sessions occur about three times a week for six consecutive weeks. During these sessions, an athlete performs warm-ups, jump drills, strength training, and flexibility exercises. Each program focuses on improving strength, balance, and jumping and landing techniques through a variety of exercises, including dynamic warm-ups, jump training, and strength-building activities. The Sportsmetrics program has achieved the Excellence in Research Award from the American Orthopedic Society for Sports Medicine.
Injury Prevention
Sportsmetrics is the first injury prevention program to significantly decrease knee ligament injuries, especially MCL and ACL injuries. These non-contact injuries occur 2-10 times more often in females, often due to incorrect jumping or pivoting. The specialized Sportsmetrics drills teach athletes safe techniques to prevent painful and slow-healing knee injuries.
Performance Enhancement
In addition to preventing injury, undergoing Sportsmetrics training also improves how you perform while participating in athletic activities. The jumping and landing drills are scientifically proven to increase vertical jump height up to four inches, improve the hamstring-to-quadriceps muscle strength ratio, and enhance symmetry in leg strength.
Rehabilitation
If you’ve suffered from an injury due to sports, consider using Sportsmetrics to speed up the recovery process. Not only does Sportsmetrics optimize rehabilitation, but it also helps you to better understand how to prevent a repeat injury in the future.

When a person begins to experience a debilitating pain, his or her goal is generally to establish two things: lasting pain relief and avoidance of surgery. Read on to learn how the physical therapists at PT Northwest might help you avoid painful and expensive surgery.
What is a physical therapist?
A physical therapist is specifically trained to restore patients’ activity levels, strength, and range of motion after an injury or surgery. These practitioners treat individuals of all ages who are limited in their ability to move and perform functional activities. Techniques to promote movement, pain reduction, and restoration of function are employed in order to prevent disability. Physical therapists may also develop fitness and wellness plans to help patients live healthier and more active routines.
What problems can your physical therapist help with?
Here are just a few of the many medical conditions that a licensed physical therapist can help you deal with:
How can physical therapy help you avoid surgery?
Physical therapy can reduce pain and inflammation in many parts of the body. The American Heart Association recommends physical therapy to treat pain resulting from tendonitis, bursitis, osteoarthritis, and rheumatoid arthritis. Physical therapy can even help patients manage pain without pain medication.
For physical therapy to be effective, a patient must attend all appointments set by the therapist. A missed appointment can set the patient back, which could lead to the need for more invasive treatment. Asking questions and establishing an open dialogue with your therapist will help you receive thorough care.
